Editorial Standards
Our goal is simple: publish accurate, useful education news that readers can trust. These standards apply to everything we publish.
Accuracy and sourcing
- We verify facts before publishing and link to original sources, such as laws, official agency pages, and public records, whenever possible.
- We clearly separate facts from opinion. Opinion pieces are labeled and reflect the views of their authors.
- We do not publish anonymous claims about named individuals.
Contributor stories
Contributors submit stories through our submission form. Editors may edit for length, clarity, style, and accuracy, and may ask contributors for sources. An editor makes the final decision on every story. Contributors must disclose any personal or financial connection to the subject of their story.
Protecting students
- We do not publish the names or photos of students under 18 without written consent from a parent or guardian.
- We do not publish student disciplinary, health, or special education details that could identify a child.
- We will remove a student's name or photo on request from a parent or guardian.
Paid content and sponsors
- Paid content is always labeled "School Press Release" or "Sponsored" and carries a disclosure explaining who supplied or paid for it.
- Outbound links in paid content use the rel="sponsored" attribute.
- Sponsors and advertisers never review, approve, or influence news coverage.
- We review paid content for accuracy and student privacy, and we may decline it.
- Awards placement is never sold.
AI assistance
We use AI tools to help draft, edit, and check stories. Stories that were drafted with significant AI assistance carry an "AI-assisted, editor reviewed" label. See our AI Use Policy.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. See our Corrections policy.
Using others' work
We summarize and link to other reporting with credit. We do not copy other publications' articles or photos.
