How to submit your school's news to Education Press
Students, teachers, parents, and school leaders can send us stories, photos, and announcements. Here is what we look for, how review works, and how to protect students' privacy.
Education Press is built on a simple idea: the people closest to a school know its news first. Our national front page and state sections are written with help from volunteer contributors, then reviewed by editors before anything is published.
Here is how to send us your story.
What we are looking for
We publish news and features about learning in every setting: public, private, charter, faith-based, and home education, from early learning through college. Good fits include:
- Student achievements, competitions, and scholarships
- Teacher and staff recognition
- New programs, clubs, and partnerships
- School and community events, after they happen
- Explainers on local policy that families need to understand
- Opinion essays from students, educators, and parents (clearly labeled as opinion)
How to submit
Use our Submit a Story form. You will be asked for your name, role, school, and state, a headline, the story itself, and an optional photo.
Tips for a strong submission:
- Lead with the news. Who did what, when, and where?
- Include a quote from someone involved, with their name and role, and their permission to be quoted.
- Stick to facts you can confirm. Link to the source if you can.
- Keep it short. 300 to 700 words is plenty for most stories.
Protecting students
We do not publish the names or photos of minors without consent from a parent or guardian. When you submit, you confirm that you have that consent for any student named or pictured, and that you have the right to share any photo you send.
What happens next
Every submission is read by our editorial team. We may use AI tools to help check grammar, format, and facts, and an editor makes the final decision to publish, request changes, or decline. Read more in our Editorial Standards and AI Use Policy.
If your story is accepted, it will appear in your state section and may be featured on the national front page or in your state’s newsletter.
Paid announcements are separate
Schools that want guaranteed placement for an announcement can purchase a School Press Release. Press releases are always labeled as paid content and are kept separate from our news coverage. Paying never influences our news decisions.
